Former Buffalo Bills tight end and former tight ends coach Pete Metzelaars shared his thoughts with the Buffalo News on quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick this week.

"If you have a dominating defense, you can get by with an average to below-average quarterback," Pete Metzelaars told The Buffalo News. "If you don't have a dominating defense, you need a winning quarterback in the NFL."
He continued:
"Fitz is an average to below-average kind of guy, and unfortunately he made some bad decisions at the end of games and then didn't make plays at the ends of other games we had chances to win. So it's got to start there."
These comments come just a few weeks after being let go with the rest of the coaching staff as a new regime begins this season for the Bills.
Head coach Doug Marrone has already re-signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and has announced that he will hold open competition for quarterback, including a probable draft pick by the Bills this season.
If the Bills wish to cut Fitzpatrick, there will be heavy salary cap penalties, unless the team can get Fitzpatrick to restructure his deal.
