The Buffalo Bills are reportedly one of many teams interested in acquired New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis.
According to CBS Sports Revis is on the trading block, and the Jets are reportedly seeking a first- and second-round pick in return for their star player.
But don’t get excited quite yet, Bills fans.
Mike Freeman, a writer for CBS Sports, believes a trade bringing Revis to Buffalo won’t happen. He says the Jets aren’t likely trade a key player to a division rival, while other media reports indicate Revis may be seeking a lucrative contract extension.
The Bills’ new defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine, who coached Revis in New York, was asked about the possibility of having Revis on the Bills.
"He is a player that is under contract to another team," Pettine told The Buffalo News. "We are evaluating this roster, when the smoke clears from that we'll look to address any potential additions to this roster."
Pettine also admits it would be nice to have a player of Revis’s caliber staring down opposing team’s quarterbacks. But for now, his thoughts are on the players currently on his team.
"It helps. For me, anytime you can lock down the outside and play nine against nine, I think that's to your advantage. Again, those guys aren't here and we are evaluating some talented players here," Pettine told The Buffalo News. "Are we going to build the structure of the system the same way as New York? Absolutely not. This is going to be the Buffalo Bills' defense. And we're excited, like we mentioned before, in just the early evaluations of the roster, there are some talented football players here."
